Background

Portuguese limestones such as Moleanos and some of its main variations have large demand for application on exterior cladding projects, particularly in European countries such as Belgium, France, UK or Luxembourg. They often replace local limestones but also present a great price/quality/uniformity relation. On top of all this, the manufacturing level for cladding in Portugal has grown considerably and is today up to higher levels of standard, quality control and project management.

Portugal is today an important player in the limestone cladding market mostly due to its own capacity to manufacture, its ability to handle project management as well as its considerable and affordable resources in terms of light colored limestone such as the ones we present here.

Limestones

The limestones with most demand are Moleanos Fine, Moleanos Classic and Cabeca Veada. If the Moleanos variations are already considered traditional limestones to be used on cladding applications, the Cabeca Veada is the new limestone in this market and is considered today as perhaps the most relevant Portuguese limestone to be used in cladding in the future.

Markets

The markets by excellence for the supply of Moleanos limestone for cladding are UK, France, Belgium and Luxembourg. These are mature markets with a high demand for limestone for cladding, either for design reasons or to keep traditional style of historical centers.

In addition to these markets, there is a huge growth from the Middle East, where large scale cladding projects are booming and Portuguese limestones are often the choice for its competitive price, availability and uniformity.
